Two of the most common questions we hear at our shop in Sampeng are "how many yards are in one roll?" and "how much fabric do I need for one garment?". Here are simple, practical answers for brands, dressmakers and garment factories planning a wholesale order.
How many yards are in one roll?
Cassia Fashion sells fabric wholesale by the whole roll only. Most of our rolls are about 120–150 yards. The exact length depends on the fabric type and thickness, so the yards per roll for each fabric is shown on its page in our catalogue — or just ask us on LINE @777entms.
- 1 yard = 36 inches = 0.9144 metres
- 120 yards ≈ 110 metres · 150 yards ≈ 137 metres
How much fabric does one garment take?
It really depends on the design, the size range and the fabric width. As a rough guide for an average adult size, published sewing charts give these amounts:
- Short-sleeve shirt or blouse — about 1¼ yards (58–60" fabric) or 1⅝ yards (44–45" fabric)
- Long-sleeve shirt — about 1⅝ yards (58–60") or 2⅛ yards (44–45")
- Straight skirt — about 1¼ yards (58–60") or 1⅝ yards (44–45")
- Full-length pants — about 2¼ yards (58–60") or 2⅝ yards (44–45")
- Short-sleeve dress — about 2⅜ yards (58–60") or 3⅛ yards (44–45")
- Long-sleeve dress — about 3 yards (58–60") or 3⅝ yards (44–45")
For one-way prints or fabrics with a nap, add about ¼ yard for every yard. For checks and stripes that must be matched, add extra for the pattern repeat. Bigger sizes, full skirts, ruffles and long sleeves all use more.
How many garments can one roll make?
Dividing a 120–150 yard roll by the amounts above gives a rough number of pieces per roll, before cutting waste:
- Short-sleeve shirts or straight skirts — about 95–120 pieces (58–60") or 70–90 pieces (44–45")
- Long-sleeve shirts — about 70–90 pieces (58–60") or 55–70 pieces (44–45")
- Full-length pants — about 50–65 pieces (58–60") or 45–55 pieces (44–45")
- Short-sleeve dresses — about 50–60 pieces (58–60") or 38–48 pieces (44–45")
- Long-sleeve dresses — about 40–50 pieces (58–60") or 33–41 pieces (44–45")
Real numbers depend on your pattern and how tightly the pieces are laid out. Factories that plan a cutting marker usually get close to these numbers; small workshops cutting one piece at a time usually get a few less.
Tip: wider fabric often means less waste
Most Cassia Fashion fabrics are 58/60 inches wide, so you can fit more pattern pieces across the width than on 44-inch fabric. When you compare prices, compare the cost per garment, not only the price per roll.
